Treating conventional ethnographies as fiction, a post-modern way of doing ethnography has been proposed. The post-modern criticism lead to varied responses. While post-modern trend has been considered as an ephemeral phenomenon by many, others see the possibility of a profound reshaping of the discipline and its methods. While the followers of this trend strated introspection about the role of the discipline by re-examining earlier works, good number of anthropologists countered the post-modern criticism by pointing to the inadequacies and contradictons in the post-modern deconstructions.
