Working at play BDSM sexuality in the San Francisco by area

By: Weiss, Margot D.
Subject(s): Sexuality | BDSM | pleasure | San Francisco Bay Area | play | work In: Anthropologica 48(2)Summary: In this article, i argue that BDSM sexuality should be conceptualized as a form of "working at play". Considering two dominant models of sexuality, identify and lifestyle, I argue that BDMS is more fluid and less binary than identity. Moreover, while lifestyle focusses attention on BDMS as consumptive labour this model does not adequately address the pleasure or sociality BMSM practitioners themselves emphasize.
