Some correlations of the opinion on ideal number of children in the family

The aim was to study the exclusive role, if any, of some of their personal characteristics viz. - literacy levels of both the spouses, number of total living children with special reference to male, socio-economic status & their age in the determination of family size. All such factors were significantly related with couples' opinion for the purpose. Analysis indicates that about 50% variation of their response on ideal children is explained by demographic factors as against 15% by socio-economic factors. Findings further reveal that aged couples, with low literacy levels having larger number of living children, smaller nymber of male living children & belonging to low socio-economic groups, by & large, prefer to have ore children in their families.
