By: Rao, P. Venkat.
Subject(s): Anthropology | post-modernism In: The Eastern Anthropologist 47(3)Summary: The post-modernists have been raising important questions about established practices of field work, ethnographic presentations, and interpretations. Treating conventional ethnographies as fiction, a post-modern way of doing ethnography has been proposed. The post-modern criticism lead to varied responses. While post-modern trend has been considered as an ephemeral phenomenon by many, others see the possibility of a profound reshaping of the discipline and its methods. While the followers of this trend strated introspection about the role of the discipline by re-examining earlier works, good number of anthropologists countered the post-modern criticism by pointing to the inadequacies and contradictons in the post-modern deconstructions. Drawing from varios published works, the present paper attempts an appraisal of the issues raised by post-modernists, and the ongoing debate.Item type | Current location | Call number | Status | Date due | Barcode |
